Accurate Neuromonitoring supported the 2019 Weill Cornell Tanzania Neurosurgery Mission by providing Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IONM) — a first in the country’s history!
Fernando Honorio, MsC, CNIM, R.EEG.T, Director of Education at Accurate Neuromonitoring, travelled to Dar es Salaam with IONM equipment and supplies for several activities at Muhimbili Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Institute. Fernando’s trip included:
- A public presentation about the risk reduction role of Neurophysiological Monitoring in brain and spine surgeries
- Hands-on training in breakout sessions for a neurologist from MNH and MOI nurse anesthetists
- Neuromonitoring for spinal deformities correction surgeries, including a special pediatric scoliosis correction surgery that would not have been performed without IONM, per Dr. Alaa Ahmad
The mission trip helped raise awareness and clearly demonstrate the need for IONM in complex brain and spine surgeries. Congratulations to Fernando and the whole mission team!
